![]() ![]() ![]() The freedom is not licence for unlimited damage. Yet is proves that human freedom can work. Summerhill has mostly had to deal with ‘problem’ children with whom the conventional school system has already failed. True, the bill for breakages is higher than at other schools. They play as much as they want to and learn what they want to. They make up their own rules in a school government and enforce them themselves. The children come to lessons or stay away as they please. Summerhill is based on a simple idea: “To renounce all discipline, all direction, all moral training, all religious instruction.” In just about six months, they are natural, healthy kids who say what they think without fluster or haste.” ![]() After that, they also lose their deference to what they regarded as authority. “It takes at least six months for them to lose their insincerity. And all the time, they have a polite and insincere expression in their eyes and voices. They do all the things they have been forbidden to do in the past: they swear, they smoke, they break things. They become impudent, unmannerly, unwashed. ![]() After a few weeks of freedom, they show what they really are. They glance at me with ‘respect’, which is easily recognised as fear. For the first week or two, they open doors for the teachers, call me ‘sir’, and wash carefully. “Their reaction to freedom is rapid and tiresome. In his practice and in his writings he was the most uncompromising advocate of freedom in education. A S Neill, founder of Summerhill School, died in 1973 at the age of 90. ![]()

![]() ![]() Most superhero stories have a comic relief element somewhere, that unfortunately seemed absent here. I was sitting there thinking who was he and what’s his deal (until the friend who recommended this mostly explained it, nothing explained in the comic). what?” Main thing was the not Reed Richards in this. I got most of it but a lot of things had me like “umm. ![]() It’s not terrible but could definitely use improvement. The ending! Oh my gosh, I don’t wanna say much about it but the ending shocked me so much! As a fan of Marvel and Horror this comic mixed the 2 extremely well. This is more of a horror comic than I expected it to be and I think that’s awesome. The action scenes are pretty awesome and very exciting! Cates added a lot of depth to the Venom character in this volume and it’s great. So another big improvement, I actually care about the characters this time around. We get some pretty great panels in this volume. In volume one while I considered it an entertaining read, I thought the story was maybe at least A LITTLE stupid so I like that the plot got better. ![]() ![]() In his early life Macdonald was strongly influenced by both Calvinism and the Congregational Church. His father was a farmer and the family was part of the MacDonalds of Glen Coe, direct descendants of one of the clan that suffered in the “Glen Coe Massacre” of 1692. Suicide prevention and intervention is an important topic for all peoples, according to the WHO. Īs such, suicide rates may be higher than measured, with men more at risk of dying by suicide than women across nearly all cultures and backgrounds. Suicide is therefore often a secretive act surrounded by taboo, and may be unrecognized, misclassified or deliberately hidden in official records of death. In some countries, suicidal behavior is a criminal offence punishable by law. ![]() In much of the world, suicide is stigmatized and condemned for religious or cultural reasons. Males aged 50-54 were found to have the highest suicide rate (22.5 per 100,000). The male suicide rate was 15.8 per 100,000, compared to a female suicide rate of 5.5 per 100,000. Women experienced a greater decrease compared with men over the study period. The overall suicide rate was 10.5 per 100,000, compared to 10.0 per 100,000 in 2020, and 10.8 per 100,000 in 2019. In high-income modernized countries male and female rates of suicidal behaviors differ much compared to those in the rest of the world: while women are reportedly more prone to suicidal thoughts, rates of suicide are higher among men, which has been described as a "silent epidemic".
